Written documentation of herbal use dates back over 5,000 years to
ancient India, China and Egypt.
It was Hippocrates, the
Greek physician known as "the Father of medicine"; and Galen, a Roman
doctor, who outlined the standards for using herbal medicines which were
followed for centuries. Although about 75 percent of allopathic
medicines are derived from plants, perceptions, today, are that herbals
are a quite separate healing modality.
